Having exhausted its function in 2004, the old Slaughterhouse building, inaugurated by Fernão de Ornelas in 1940, now opens its doors, restored and prepared to house new functions in the creation and dissemination of the arts and in supporting scientific and technological research.

In troubled times like the ones we live in, where art and knowledge are the privileged weapons to face the threats and challenges that society faces, the CCIF seeks, through the harmonious complementarity of its new and different activities, to establish a space focused on serving the population of Funchal with equanimity.

With a permanent program of shows, exhibitions, congresses and social activities, the aim will be to showcase the new, without forgetting the old, and to encourage creativity and imagination without forgetting the ultimate goal of promoting active solidarity among the different actors in the life of the city, without exclusions or forgetfulness.
