Cabo Girão, located on the south coast of Madeira Island, in Câmara de Lobos, is set to become one of Portugal’s tourist landmarks by 2026. With an impressive altitude of 580 meters, it is recognized as the highest cape in Europe and one of the largest vertical promontories in the world.
The main attraction is its renovated viewpoint, which features a suspended glass platform — the «skywalk.» This structure allows visitors to literally walk over the abyss, offering a unique adrenaline experience with a direct view of the crystal-clear waters of the Atlantic and the «Fajãs do Cabo Girão,» small cultivated areas located at the base of the cliff.
Historically, access to these fertile lands was only by boat, but today the Rancho Cable Car facilitates the descent. In addition to the contemplative aspect, the place is a center for adventure sports, such as base jumping and paragliding. The surroundings are enriched by the Chapel of Our Lady of Fatima, a point of faith and peace atop this giant rock formation.
